European Union to Halve Marine Waste by 2020

European environmentalists are calling for a 50% reduction of marine waste by 2020, according to EurActiv. The urging follows the passage of the 2008 Marine Strategy Framework Directive, which mandates that European Union nations must have monitoring programs in place by mid-2014. The renewed push comes as 15 coastal and island nation representatives are meeting at The Hague today to discuss the environmental impact of marine waste.
