McDonald's To Phase Out Polystyrene Cups

Last week, McDonald's made an important announcement that has created waves in the green community – the popular fast food chain has announced that it will be phasing out polystyrene cups in favor of paper over the course of the next few years. According to Bloomberg News' Leslie Patton, the shift to paper across all of McDonald's 14,100 locations in America will take years, but the move is one that other companies have yet to initiate.

MANILA, Philippines — Environmental groups on Wednesday expressed support for the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) plea for a metro-wide ban on plastic bags and Styrofoam.

EcoWaste Coalition’s Task Force Plastics Troy Lacsamana said it is time the rest of Metro Manila’s local governments, particularly Caloocan, Malabon, Manila, Marikina, Navotas, Parañaque, Pateros, Quezon City, San Juan and Valenzuela joined other municipalities in addressing plastic pollution.

Girl Scouts are Cutting Down on Styrofoam Waste in Massachusetts

In Massachusetts, the Westborough Patch reports that with the support of the Westborough Board of Health and the sponsorship of Central One Federal Credit Union, Westborough Cadette Girl Scouts, Bhargavi Ram and Kaleigh Wright, are bringing Styrofoam (Polystyrene #6) recycling to Westborough. They have been working on this project since the spring and have set a date of March 24 to hold their Reduce, Reuse, ReFoamIt! event.
