Cornell University

The student-led Take Back the Tap initiative presented a resolution to the Cornell Student Assembly to phase out bottled water sales on camus, which was passed in November of 2010.

University of Canberra

Uni Canberra is thought to be the first university in Australia to stop selling bottled water. The school is installing hydration stations, as well as WaterVend machines that offer 'flash chilled' still, sparkling, and flavored water refills for about 1/3 th price of the packaged equivalent. The plan is to cease all water bottle sales on the 13,000 student campus by World Water Day, March 22, 2012.

Monte Sant' Angelo Mercy College

This girls school in North Sydney is one of the first in Australia to ban the sale of plastic water bottles. Instead, they have installed six water bottle refill stations, and have made a steel refillable water bottle a part of the schools compulsory uniform.

Leeds University

Leeds University became the first in the UK to ban bottled water sales in 2009, following a student referendum. It is uncertain whether the ban will stick, as some students feel they do not have enough alternatives to the bottled water. The idea of lifting the ban was posed in an online forum.

Oberlin College

Oberlin no longer sells bottled water in vending machines or in its dining facilities.

University of Wisconson, Stevens Point

UW - Stevens Point students have pushed the school to end sales of bottled water. The Student Government Association voted on the move to make water free instead of selling it in vending machines. Water fountains have been outfitted with water bottle fillers as an alternative.

Upstate Medical University

Pursuant to an executive order by Gov. David Patterson that disallows state money to be spent on plastic bottled water, Upstate Medical University began it's phaseout of water sold in plastic bottles in July of 2009.

The SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, operated by Stanford, is replacing most of its water vending machines and coolers with 94 carbon-filtered water dispensers ( In addition, the campus is moving towards the elimanation of single use water bottles, and have eliminated them in the Dining Services central office.
